Food For Thought
Food for Thought is a nutrition education programme
developed to support students to make healthier food and lifestyle
choices.
The Food for Thought programme is available to all
Primary Schools in New Zealand and specifically targeted to Year 5
and 6 students.
Food for Thought is absolutely free to participating
schools and is unique in that it provides a nutritionist to deliver
the programme. It has been developed around the New Zealand
Education Curriculum with the assistance of a registered
Nutritionist and several New Zealand registered teachers. It
incorporates two classroom sessions, an inquiry learning session at
a local Four Square, New World or PAK'nSAVE supermarket, a
sponsored healthy lunch, a free Food for Thought lunchbox and a
take home fridge magnet for continued learning in the home.
Food for Thought is now being implemented in schools
nationwide through the Food for Thought Education Trust, the two
Foodstuffs Cooperatives and through a partnership with the Heart
Foundation.
