High Praise for South Island Four Squares Supporting Their Customers
Foodstuffs
To stand 'four-square' behind someone means you
firmly support them - and three South Island Four Square stores
have recently shown how much the brand lives up to that
ethos.
In August, a grateful customer emailed Four Square's customer
service desk with high praise for Four Square Tekapo:
"A Huge THANK YOU to Jason and team at Tekapo 4 Square," she
wrote, "for charging my special battery for my sleep machine when I
am down there on holiday." Her family crib has no electricity, she
explained. "Without Jason's help I would not be able to
sleep."
Nor is it the first time her family had been helped out by the
Jeffries family, who've been running the store at Tekapo since
1985. "I remember his Dad letting my Dad freeze our chilli pads in
the old shop freezer (before we had a gas fridge)," not to mention
their meat and freshly caught fish.
"Acts of kindness, generosity and community stay with
you forever," she concluded. "Cheers to the Best 4 Square in New
Zealand."
Four Square's South Island Group Manager, Steve
Alexander says the email exemplified the strength and depth of the
brand's connection to the communities they serve.
"We've been a part of the local fabric for almost a century, and
there are a lot of stories out there of friendly Four Square
grocers going above and beyond to help their customers," says
Alexander.
In July, Four Square Franz Josef were described as "community
superheroes" by their local Scouts group, for helping them raise
funds to send their Keas and Cubs to Okarito
Campground.
And in April, Four Square Maniototo owners Martin and Michelle
Grundy drove more than four hours to deliver groceries to a
syndicate of local farmers who were out on their annual
muster.
"Farmers can't go without their fruit and veg," recalls Michelle.
"So when their order arrived we gladly jumped into our 4WD for the
bumpy 100km roundtrip, and took 'home delivery' to new
heights!"
Steve Alexander says the stories above show how Four Square
owner-operators have their customers' best interests at
heart.
"Our owners aren't just business-people; they're fellow
school-parents and club-members and mates of their customers.
That's what's kept us going for close to a century, and will do for
a century more."
